CHAMPIONS!!!

2011 U16 Tier II Girls Alaska State Champions!

CHAMPIONS!!!

This weekend, I travelled to Anchorage Alaska for a 3-game series against the Alaska Icebreakers. This was a very important series. The winner (best 2 out of 3 games) earns the title of Tier II U16 Girls Alaska State Champions and Tier II U16 Girls USA Hockey Pacific District Champions.

We won game 1 by a score of 2-1. I passed to my teammate Marissa K. breaking up the middle. She shot, collected her own rebound, and scored. It was sweet! She's amazing.

Game 2 went to overtime tied 0-0. in the final minute of the 1st 10 minute overtime, I got the puck and some room. I ripped a high, hard slapshot from the point. The goalie gave up a big rebound and Marissa dove for the tap in. It was awesome, and like I said...Marissa is amazing!

We lost the 3rd game in the last 30 seconds on a good goal, 2-1. It didn't matter though...
Team Alaska U16 Tier II Girls are:

Alaska State Champions

and

USA Hockey Pacific District

 Champions

Eliminated!

Out of the high school playoffs!  We lost to Eugene today 6-2.  We did not play well as a team.  I had the assist to our opening goal, but we didn't really get much going after that.  It was only 3-2 at the end of the 2nd, but it was all downhill from there.  Now, time to focus on preparing for District select camp and Nationals!

High School Playoffs

We started our double elimination high school hockey tournament last night against South Medford.  At the end of regulation we were tied 5-5.  We lost in the sudden death overtime when one of South's Spartan players scored on us.  It's all good, because I had a sweet power play goal last night!  I also had a nice assist out of the corner to Daniel G. but I was not officially credited with the assist.

So it goes.  Game today at 1:00 pm to avoid elimination.

District Select Camp...

...third time's a charm?  I made it to the Pacific District select Camp again.  This is my third trip, and my dad says it'd be really nice if I could go the extra mile and make it to the National Select camp this year.

I guess I'll get to work on that...

Lost the Championship Game

Team Alaska U16's came up short losing the Championship game 2-1 to the Alaska Icebreakers.  Gotta figure out how to beat them...will see them again in a few weeks as a precursor to Nationals!

Team AK U16's win against U19's!

The U16's won tonite against the U19's by a score of 2-1.  Jerin had another goal.  They finished round robin play 1-1-1. Not sure where that gets them in championship play tomorrow.  Updates when we have them.

Tie...

Team Alaska U16's have tied the University of Alaska - Fairbanks Women's Hockey Team 1-1 on a goal from:

JERIN DINKINS!!!!!!!!!!!

Updates from Alaska...

Game 1 of the Arctic Freeze Winter Tournament:
Alaska Icebreakers 2  Team Alaska 1
Jerin had 0 points and a 2 minute minor penalty for checking.
She also had a "huge" breakaway and didn't finish it.

She has 2 games today.  Check back later for more updates.

btw, it was 8 degrees when she got to Fairbanks yesterday and -18 for the low last night.  I think the tournament is properly named.

0'fer weekend, oh well, next weekend is Alaska!

I played 4 games this weekend.  Two games with the Crater Comets against the Churchill Lancers in high school league play.  We lost the 1st game, hands down. The 2nd game went to a shootout. I was one of the shooters for the shootout, and despite a pretty sweet move (according to my dad) inside then out, I didn't get the backhand up and the Churchill goalie made a sharp, sliding save. We ended up losing, but not on the back of my miss alone. I got an assist in the 2nd game.

I also played 2 games with the So. Oregon Jr. Spartans U18 boys team.  We played the Portland Jr. Hawks U18 AA team.  We lost bad Saturday night, but came back very strong Sunday morning, losing by just 1 goal!  I got lots of playing time, and I think that playing with the Spartans improves my speed and game skills. I had lots of shots, especially in Sunday's game. It was a good weekend despite the Saturday night blowout...

Next weekend I am travelling to Fairbanks, AK with my Team Alaska U16 girls! Can't wait! We'll be playing a little round robin tourney against the UAF Women's team, the Alaska Icebreakers, and Team Alaska's U19 girls.  Gonna be amazing...  Can't wait to see you girls!

PNAHA Washington State Select Camp

I spent all weekend at the Pacific Northwest Amatuer Hockey Association's Washington State Select Camp in Wenatchee, WA.  (Ya, I did!)  I'm not eligible to be selected from WA to go on to the District Select Camp, but here in Oregon I have to go to the state camp with boys (Oregon state Select Camp was 2 weeks ago).  In Washington, there are enough girls, or enough girls come together anyway, to hold our own camp.  It's fun, and as the season turns towards the final stretch, I get inspired to work even harder to become the best female hockey player in the Pacific NW and beyond.  I've also skated with a bunch of the girls who attend the WA Camp over the years and so it's good to see them all again.  Finally, it gives me a 1st look at some of my competition at Districts.  Oh yeah, I plan to be there....

Jr. Spartans dominate Portland Area Selects!

So the Oregon High School Hockey League (Portland area) Selects came down this weekend for two games against my U18 team the Jr. Spartans.  We won Saturday night 8-2 and then again today by a score of 10-1.  Neither game was ever in question, but they were a hard hitting team.  I took a few heavy shots, but it's all good.

Are the Jr. Spartans the best team in Oregon?  I don't know, but we two games against the Portland Jr. Hawks in two weeks and that may decide it!  They're coming down to Medford for a weekend pair.

Next weekend I'm travelling to Wenatchee, WA to skate in the WA State Girls Select Camp.  I can't get a pass to District Selects there, but I'm pretty confident of moving on from Oregon anyway.  It's a good opportunity to see old friends, skate against girl competition and see Teka again!  Woot!

I'll keep you posted....

Crater beats South!

I played against SM Panthers last night and we won 7-4!  I scored a short-handed goal off a sweet pass from Daniel Gomez.  It was the game tying goal in the 2nd period...  Crater dominated the 3rd period and we went on to win.  I heard that I was on the evening news for the goal, but they did not post the video online.  We're looking for a way to get it.  For now, here is the write-up in the Medford Mail Tribune:

CRATER 7, SOUTH MEDFORD 4 — Daniel Gomez scored twice and had an assist and Bryce Crawford tacked on a pair of goals to lead Crater to the Southern League win at the RRRink.

Dustin Gomez added one goal and one assist for the Comets, who also got goals from Jerin Dinkins and Dakota Massey. Earning assists were Thomas Gamble and John Ryan Keyser, with Derek Baker making 17 saves.

South Medford opened a 3-2 lead after one period thanks to goals from Ryan Lund, Andrew Phillips and Bobby Ruddle. Ruddle scored again in the second period to send the match into the third at 4-all.

Preston Carney registered a pair of assists and Phillips had one assist, while Panthers goalie Jon Lines made 32 saves.

South Medford 3 1 0 — 4
Crater 2 2 3 — 7

Oregon State Select Camp

This is a thread from my dad's facebook account last night about the 1st day of select camp:

Jerin just cut her leg on her skate at the Oregon State select camp. She's on her way to the hospital to get some glue, a stitch, or whatever. Dad's advice: Wear it like a badge sista! Done for the night, hopefully she'll continue the camp tomorrow.

Jim Williams: Praying for a swift recovery.

Ray Dinkins: Moges says" Tell her that her brother hopes she is okay." Juice says, "That's so cool! Tell her to take pictures if it's a big gash!"

Ray Dinkins: Thanks for the kid words, I'll pass them along. I could hear her in the background in the ER..."Tell dad I was doing freakin' awesome..."

Dawn Cramer: love your attitude about it! Hope it doesn't hurt too much and yes she should wear it proudly!!!

Ray Dinkins: glue w/ strips, no stitches, and released for skating tomorrow! Woot! thanks dawn...it's hockey, ya know? better a cut than a concussion. Injuries are part of it, we just never know when. Jerin says she'll be kicking butt again tomorrow!
Melissa Haeffner: the best tattoos are scars.

Candace Scott: what time tomorrow? cailey has practice

Wendy Childress: Glad she ok. She will skate like never before now! Tell her it will make a nice tatto!

Crater beats Klamath!

My high school team, the Crater Comets, beat Klamath Falls last night 4-3.  It was a good game, and while I didn't have any points (close in the 3rd!) I did have some good hits and worked hard all night!

South Medford also beat North and they got the video footage for the night.  The Crater win is mentioned at the end of the news clip:

MLK Dream Cup Champions!!!

This weekend of hockey was awesome!  Picking up where I left off, we went on to win against the Santa Rosa Flyers on Saturday morning...4-3. You can see highlights of me in this game here:

Today we won the championship game, a rematch with the Tri Cities Jr. Americans.  We won 5-2.  I didn't get a lot of playing time today, but that's okay. It was a good game and I made the best of the time I did play.

Outdoor Hockey!

Got this in an e-mail from the St. Benedict's coach this week...so cool!

MLK Dream Cup Tournament: Game 2

I played the early morning game today with the So. Oregon Junior Spartans Midget team.  We played the Tri Cities Jr. Americans.  It was a close game, and even though we were never trailing in this game, we could never pull away.  We were up 4-2 but Tri Cities scored with 0.8 seconds left.  It was a fun game.  I played on the penalty kill, as well as a number of additional shifts.  I didn't get in on any of the scoring, but I had a pretty good rub out along the boards.  I didn't think it was that big of a deal, but all my friends and family said it was a nice hit.

Tomorrow morning, we play the Santa Rosa Flyers.  I am confident...

Spartan vs Spartan

First game of the MLK Dream Cup here in Southern Oregon.  My team, the Jr. Spartan Midget A team, faced the Jr. Sparans Midget B team.  It was an exhibition game of sorts to kick off the tournament and to get each team ready for the visiting competition from out of state.  My team won pretty handly and I got an assist in the game.  More than that, it was just fun playing with all my friends on both teams.  Tomorrow, it's on.  Jr. Spartans vs Tri City Junior Americans...8 am.  I'll bring the update.

Crater loss...

I played with Crater last night and we lost to North Medford 7-5.  It was a good game, pretty close the whole time.  I had lots of playing time, and a couple of nice shots and centering passes, but no points.  As noted in the article from the Mail Tribune, Crater had goals from 5 different players.  North Medford got 5 of their 7 goals from 2 players who double roster with the Southern Oregon Spartans, our local Tier III Junior A team.  I don't feel too bad about losing to Junior A players, and I like the fact that lots of our kids get in on the scoring!

Here's the write up from the paper and video from last night's news broadcast.  (I am in the very bottom right hand corner of the screen at the beginning of the video preparing for the face off.  You can just see me as the video starts.)

From the Medford Mail Tribune:

NORTH MEDFORD 7, CRATER 5 — Keegan Healy picked up a hat trick and Trevor Perry added a pair of goals to lead North Medford to the Southern League win at The RRRink.
Alex Huff and Zach Lillman also scored for the Black Tornado, with Dylan Wu gaining two assists and Sam Taylor picking up another.
Crater got balanced scoring with five different scorers in Bryce Crawford, Daniel Gomez, Dustin Gomez, Thomas Gambel and John Ryan Keyser. That same group had one assist, with Thomas McGee also notching an assist.

North goalie Eric Skogseth earned the win with 25 saves.
North Medford 4 1 2 — 7
Crater 2 1 2 — 5

HOCKEY HOCKEY, HOCKEY

Double practice last night...Jr. Spartan and Crater High.  Game with Crater Wednesday and then big tournament weekend this weekend with the Jr. Spartans.  I love hockey season.  Yep!

I know it's the 4th Annual Tournament, but this was the only graphic I could find online.

Jr. Spartans in Portland...

I travelled to Portland this weekend to play with the Jr. Spartans Midget Team against the Portland Midget Selects.  We lost our game Saturday night 2-1 in a good, hard fought struggle.  Sunday morning, we came out rocking.  We beat the same Portland team 11-6 and it wasn't even really that close.  We were never in any danger of losing, and alot of players were involved in the scoring.

I got hammered pretty good in the 2nd period.  I got pushed from a distance into the boards head first.  It hurt in the moment, a little back pain to go with, but I'll be alright.

I was credited with an assist in Sunday's game.  I picked up the puck just inside my defensive zone, carried across the center ice and dished ahead to Preston.  He carried into the offensive zone and took a good hard shot from the point.  The goalie fought it but lost.  Preston's parents call him "Bear" as well, so it was Bear to Bear for the goal.  I'm glad I'm not in Medford, otherwise it would've been The Mayor to the Bear for the goal...HA!

Jr. Spartans Midgets play at home next weekend in our MLK Tournament.  Lots of hockey all weekend.  Should be fun!

We lost in an ugly game...

Klamath Falls came to Medford tonite.  We lost 7-2.  The game got ugly with 6:30 left in the 3rd.  A fight broke out.  In total, 8 players got game misconducts, 4 on each team.  Additionally, my assistant coach and the head coach of Klamath got game misconducts.  I played the entire last 6:30 of the game.

I was on the ice and skated away as the fight broke out.  Fighting has no place in high school hockey.  If anyone my age fights, it's because they can't get it done with hockey skill.  Initially, the refs gave me the fourth game misconduct on my team for not skating away...total crap!  They didn't know where all the skaters were on the ice while they pulled everyone apart.  They went to the coaches and asked them who they wanted to take the 4th penalty, but my coaches delayed with an answer.  So, the refs caught me up.

Fortunately, my team knows I didn't do it and so another kid on the ice at the time took the penalty and the refs had the scoresheet corrected.  For a while I was about to get booted for a game!  I was bent!  I don't want to miss a game!

Tomorrow night....Jr. Spartans vs Portland Selects!  Woot!

I made the evening news!!!

Yeah, I made the news last night here in So. Oregon with my HS team the Crater Comets!  The newscaster calls me 'the mayor', I'm guessing after the old NYC mayor David Dinkins.  Uh, I don't like that nickname one bit!  HA!  So my goal was ugly, but it was a goal and I made it and then I made the news....ENOY!

Crater gets a rockin' good win!

Last night I got to play with my high school team, the Crater Comets.  We played against the South Medford Panthers.  We somehow pulled away really strong and ended up winning 10-3.  I had a goal on the night.  The SM kids are cool, so I like playing them.  Great job Crater...my dad was surprised!  Ha!

I've got Crater vs. Klamath Falls on Friday night and then a Sat/Sun two game series with the Jr. Spartans vs Portland Selects in Portland.  Can't wait!!!

Here's the write up from last night's game in the Medford paper:

CRATER 10, SOUTH MEDFORD 3 — Bryce Crawford scored four goals and added one assist to lead Crater to the Southern League victory at The RRRink.
Daniel Gomez added two goals and three assists and Dustin Gomez had two goals and two assists for the Comets, who opened a 6-1 lead through two periods.
Jerin Dinkins and John Ryan Keyser also scored for Crater, with Thomas McGee, Keyser and Logan Christy also picking up assists.
Preston Carney scored twice and Curran Shaw once for South Medford (1-2), with Andrew Phillips, Brandon Punsuk and Denzel Mobley registering assists.
Crater 3 3 4 — 10
South Medford 1 0 2 — 3
