San Jose Pics

Hey....I have a slideshow of pics from the San Jose Winter Classic from this last weekend. I'm in every picture, you may just have to look to find me. I'm number 10, I have Dinkins across my back, I have a ponytail or hair hanging out the back of my helmet and I have a white tape stripe across the front forehead of my helmet. See if you can find me in all of these....enjoy.

Sorry about the name across every photo...that's the company that took the pics. I can buy them for $7 each, but I wanted to show all of you while I choose the ones I want.

Feel free to send me a message to vote for your favorite!

A little update before Christmas break....

Well, as expected, I have had 1 game and 4 practices in the last six days. I love this time of year! The only thing that I am struggling with now is that snow has come to the mountains and I want to do more snowboarding this year but have such little extra time because of my hockey schedule.

Speaking of, I am headed to San Jose for the Winter Classic the day after Christmas. I'm hoping to go down and win this thing, but I haven't played in an all boy's tournament yet...so, we'll see.

For a couple of you, Joy H. and PB, I really want to say thank you for all your encouragement and support. I'm glad to know that you are following along!

I recently found this website with a bunch of photos of me at the San Jose MLK Tournament earlier this year. These are some great action photos that feature me, so be sure to check them out:

Merry Christmas!

1st Place for the Holidays...

With today's win, my house team, the Jr. Summits Blue Thunder, moved into 1st place going into the holiday break. We beat the number one team going into today's game 3-1 and I was able to get another assist after Dustin G. picked up the rebound from one of my shots. It was a good game. Now my Jr. Summits Pee Wee travel team will prepare for the Winter Classic in San Jose later this month by practicing every night except Friday night next week. Should be good. I'll keep you posted!

A Change in Plans...

The last week in December, I was going to travel with the Portland Jr. Hawks Girls team to Langley, BC to play in the Angels on Ice tournament there. Due to too many teams applying for the tournament, our entry was denied.

Instead, that week I will be travelling with the Jr. Summits Boys PeeWee team to the Winter Classic in San Jose. This will be a tougher tournament, but I'm looking forward to playing for the first time in a long time with this team.

I love to play for Candace and the girls team, but I'd really like to see the Jr. Summits team go to Cali and do well. I'll let you know...

3rd Hat Trick of the Season

I was able to get my 3rd hat trick (3+ goals in one game) of the season today playing for the Portland Jr. Hawks. I was playing a defensive center against a boys house team that had not lost a game this season. As a matter of fact, they have beaten every team they have played this year by no less than 8 goals every game. We won the game 4-3 and I pulled all 3 goals in a single shift in the second period. The 3 goals were scored in under one minute. Go figure. It was a good game and a nice comeback after Saturday's game.

On Saturday, my Jr. Summits team tied 3-3 against another Summits team. It was a hard fought game, and I took the biggest check of the year so far. It was open ice and clean, and it looked pretty major league according to my dad. I finished my shift, it really didn't hurt. I look forward to getting that kid back again next time.

One lame game...

Hint: two nights before I stayed up really late (3:30 in the morning) with some friends of mine. The next day I partied all day and I ate a bunch of junk food and something I thought was pizza.

So as you probably guessed I wasn’t feeling my best and I was exhausted. To add onto that my teammates were pretty tired too. Before I tell you the score I want you to know I was the only person to score on my team. The score was 11 to 1. We lost hugely to a boys team (I know how lame)!

In about the middle of the game I got hurt. A guy pushed me and I fell on my knee. He came back to me and asked if I was okay. In my head I was thinking its hockey people get hurt you can’t just stop and make sure every person is okay but I thought it was sweet. And so I didn’t tell him that. I just said I was okay. I limped off the ice and sat on the bench awhile. When I was sitting on the bench I thought I was going to throw up that bagel I had for breakfast. Thank goodness I didn’t!

Well that’s the highlights of my last Jr. Hawks game. I’m positive we’ll do better next time.

A lame photo from Burnaby...

the tournament photographer wasn't very good and this is the best photo of me in the collection.

Burnaby, Vancouver BC....the wrap up!

So, the NW Selects went 5-1 at the Burnaby Tournament. We lost the championship game 0-1. It was a real bust. But it was a great tournament and we played real well. From the NW Selects website a brief recap:

U12 Team – Playing in the PeeWee bracket with nearly half the team being Squirts seemed like an uphill battle for the NWS U12 team, but the outcome proved differently. The U12s played 6 games in all, the last being the championship game. The U12s came out hard in what turned out to be a defensive battle. The U12s gave up a goal in the first period, which turned out to be the game winner. The game ended 0-1, however the weekend was a winner for all the players, parents and coaches!

U14 Team – It took 2 games for the U14s to get their ‘winning form’ back from last season, losing their first 2, however in game 3 the U14s made their move and staring to win. In game 4 the U14s looked great, winning in a shoot-out. For the weekend they were 2-2 in the Tier I level – Great job U14s!!!

U19 Team - They knew that their competition would be tough, but no one knew how close all of the teams would be in the Tier I level. Of the 24 games in the Midget level, every game ended in a tie or was decided by a single goal … all of them! The U19s were in the hunt and played some of the best team hockey seen in that level. Crashing the net, back-checking and making good short passes, took them into the semi-finals. However, a sneaker goal got into the net somehow and the U19s lost 1-2 ending their run.

The NWS came out winners on the weekend, not winning the tournament, but playing with and against the best in the area! Each player and parent took away a different experience from the weekend, but all of them were good!!!

Well done NW Selects!!!
